As news comes in, we're learning more of the damage Irene has caused. Particularly areas outside of the major cities have been most badly hit. Power outages & flooding are occurring all up & down the east coast & many miles inland.
The Schuylkill in eastern PA is in a historical flood because of the rain fall from Irene. According to NBC Philadelphia, the river hasn't been this high since 1869. The Catskills region of New York state has been hit hard too, with massive flooding throughout the region. Vermont is underwater in many places as well, along with the rest of New England. Areas of the Carolinas & Virginia have also seen significant damage. Travel can be difficult as many roads in the east are closed.
But forget about the fishing: some people lost their lives & many more have been effected by this storm. If Irene didn't interrupt your life at all, give thanks & take a moment to consider the folks that weren't so lucky. To all of them, they are in our thoughts.
